ProfessorBorn in Kobe-city, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan.
Graduated from Theatre Design Department of MAU in 1987.
I then worked as a display designer of department stores. In 1988 I moved into the field of stage design and started the career as a set designer. I received the 26th Kisaku ITO Award for the new best designer of 1998 from Japan Stage & Television Designers Association in 1999, which includes the works in “Kuroko na Watashi” by Toenkai and “Baby-san” by Lilliput Army (both are Japanese theatre companies). In the same year, I went to UK to study stage design in Central St. Martin College of Art and Design (CSM) in London on the fellowship from the Japanese Ministry of Cultural Affairs. While studying in CSM, my piece of work, "Tempest," was acclaimed and appreciated as a college collection of masterpieces. In 2006 I received the 33th Kisaku ITO Award for the best stage designer of 2005 for my work in “Okujo Teien/Douin Souwa” at New National Theatre, Tokyo. I have been involved with stage designing in various scales of stages for plays, operas and classic performances, up to the present date.
